  1. Doug... You need to talk to teachers, students and perhaps someone from Apple to better understand to value/benefits of LAUSD's investment in IPADS. 1) School district owns the IPADS not the student 2) digital content takes the place of costly text book that will save millions over time 3) digital interaction with content between students proven far more effective than static book content 4) security sw can block, monitor and track each IPAD at any time 5) extended warranty replaces broken IPADS within first few years of use ....

Haven't seen the details but would guess that over time, the ROI is positive due to digital content savings compared to costs of hard texts in addition to anticipated increased use, interaction and student interest causing knowledge, curiosity and test and grade score improvement.

Btw... Considering abysmal track record of LAUSD ....this is a bet worth taking .... As the IPAD will potentially empower students individually and provide motivation often apparently lacking based on results over the past 25+ years.... This alone doesn't address fixing the fundamental problems with LAUSD but use of this technology would be a net positive in the best or the worst school districts .... If managed correctly!
